Step-by-step instructions
Follow these four simple steps to secure your truck’s fuel system.
Unbox & verify
Verify all components are included: your Fuel Vault cover(s), the tamper-resistant security screws (included), the lock, and a set of keys.
Position the cover
Remove your existing exposed fuel bezel screws and set them aside. Align the Fuel Vault cover over the exposed fuel cap area on your work truck, using the screw holes to confirm orientation.
Secure & fasten
Using the included security screws, secure the cover in place. An impact driver is best for the security screws — they are larger in diameter to grip and draw the door firmly into the bezel and sidewall. Caution: do not over-tighten, as excessive torque can break the screws.
Test & lock
Test the locking mechanism with both provided keys. Verify the cover is secure and the fuel cap is fully accessible when unlocked.
Security screws matter
For maximum protection, replace the factory screws with the tamper-resistant security screws that come with your door. They use a specialized drive to keep thieves from simply unscrewing the cover, and their larger diameter draws the door tightly into the body. They are included with every door at no extra charge; replacement packs are available in the shop.
Installation Questions
How long does it take to install The Work Truck Fuel Vault?+
Installation takes 8–15 minutes per vehicle with basic hand tools. It bolts on using the existing fuel bezel screw holes, so there is zero body drilling, cutting, or welding.
Does installing a locking fuel door void chassis warranties?+
The Fuel Vault bolts on without drilling or modifying the chassis, fuel tank, or fuel lines, and it can be removed without leaving holes. Under the U.S. Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act, a manufacturer generally must show an aftermarket part caused a failure before denying related coverage.
How does it compare to a locking gas cap?+
A locking gas cap only secures the cap and can be pried off with pliers in seconds. The Fuel Vault is an armored, keyed door that covers the entire filler area, blocking siphon hoses, tampering, and contamination.
What tools do I need?+
An impact driver or screwdriver. An impact driver is best for the included tamper-resistant security screws — just do not over-tighten them.
