The door is made from a proprietary High Impact Reinforced Polymer — a tough engineered material roughly 3/16" (4.8 mm) thick. The Fuel Vault is a locking, armored cover over the entire fuel cap area. It blocks access to the cap and filler neck so thieves cannot remove the cap to siphon fuel or drop contaminants into the tank. Combined with tamper-resistant security screws, there is no easy way in.

No. A locking gas cap only secures the cap itself and can be pried or cut. The Fuel Vault is a full locking fuel door — an armored cover over the whole filler area — which provides far more protection against siphoning, prying, and contamination.
